APRIL 2025

Nature and Art: Waveland Marsh Pilgrimage Curated by James Inabinet, PhD

Nature and Art: Waveland Marsh Pilgrimage Curated by James Inabinet, PhD Opening: April 11, 2025, from 4pm to 7:30pm (Presentations and Artist talks begin at 6).

Over the past two months, thirty-five artists embarked on a pilgrimage to the Waveland marsh, performing assays that deepened their spiritual connection through meditation and prayer. Their ultimate task was to create art that could embody that experience and translate it to patrons. In addition to framed art on the walls, there will be performances of music, poetry, and storytelling.

The Exhibition is to be a Pilgrimage in its own right, a “journey into new or expanded meaning.” Art will be arranged within a medicine wheel to engender an atmosphere of ritual, sharpening our attention, allowing deeper connection as we spiritually come to know the marsh through art! Artists will also give a short talk describing their experience.

Finally, consider the relevance this pilgrimage and exhibition might hold for the marsh’s future. Deep connection with nature often leads to greater stewardship. Perhaps you may undergo a transformative experience akin to that of the artist’s, an experience that may engender deep care for the marsh, one that may extend your idea of home to include the marsh and its inhabitants.
